Medical Debt Forgiveness

Background: Nebobongo Hospital is a Christian-run hospital under the authority of the regional church, CECCA-16, in the northeast corner of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The Nebobongo Evangelical Hospital, for all of its resource challenges, remains the best-equipped and staffed hospital in an area serving over 260,000 people in one of the poorest regions of one of the poorest countries on earth. The fact that they have doctors (especially a surgeon) and medicine in their pharmacy puts them way above most hospitals in the area. We have served with the hospital for over twelve years through numerous projects and programs. One of the programs we have supported for over ten years is the monthly medical debt forgiveness funding.

"Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me." - Matthew 25:34-40

This ongoing funding allows the hospital to treat patients who cannot afford medical care. The staff actively proclaims the Gospel while demonstrating the love and grace of Jesus. All patients receive compassionate, high-quality treatment regardless of their ability to pay. This hospital is unique in canceling debts, as many hospitals in the DRC actually keep patients in a debtor’s prison within the hospital until their families can pay. Nebobongo Hospital tangibly expresses the grace of God by covering the debts and sending patients home to their families.

Current: We have some monthly donors that give to this program, and we currently have a very small balance in the account. However, our goal is always to send $2,000 per month, which is unsustainable at our current rate of donations. Please consider a one-time gift or a monthly commitment to this program so that we can provide the hospital with the support needed.

Cost: Our goal is to raise $23,000 for 2024 to continue providing funding for this valuable program.
