Empowering Women and Youth in Martinpur

Background: The village of Martinpur, Pakistan, sits a few kilometers from Youngsonabad, where we have been serving for a few years. This village is known as the sister village of Youngsonabad and is also mostly Christian, with higher poverty rates. The villagers have been watching the work done in Younsonabad, and their leadership has been asking us for over a year to start an initiative in their town to advance the women and youth. Initially, we had too many projects to create a new one, but we started planning for it in late 2025. In April, we will start the "Women and Youth Development Initiative for Martinpur".

Current: The Development Initiative for Martinpur will have two phases in it and will take place over a five-month period of time. The first phase will provide training for the village's youth, and the second phase will equip rural and poor women in the community with skills and knowledge relevant to current market needs. Below is a breakdown of the two phases:

Cost: $5,775 for 2026

Phase One:

  • Career guidance and counselling seminars with school-going youth and school dropouts add_circle_outline
  • Career information boards/resource Center add_circle_outline
  • Career talks and guest speaker sessions: Invite professionals from various fields to share their experiences add_circle_outline
  • Distribution of bags and books among deserving students of 5th to 10th grade add_circle_outline

Phase Two:

  • Poultry farming training and composting add_circle_outline
  • Distribution of poultry units among poor rural women (One poultry unit consists of 05 egg laying hens and 01 cock) add_circle_outline
  • Seedling and nursery management add_circle_outline
  • Reusable cloth bag making add_circle_outline
  • Refresher course on tailoring and dress designing for those who are already skilled in sewing add_circle_outline
  • Distribution of sewing/tailoring kits among poor rural women add_circle_outline

Cost: $5775 for phase one of the Development Initiative for Martinpur. This will most likely grow into either another program or an expansion of the work above.
